When an EMP Bomb is picked up, a small amount of energy is diverted into its shield. After launch, it releases an electromagnetic pulse when it hits an invader wave, which disables all invaders in the impact radius.
Warning: When using an M.I.B. Bomb, be careful. After launching a MIB bomb, it shatters on impact in an invader wave into smaller MIB bombs, which will destroy all ships in their path on contact. So dodge the trajectories of the projectiles, otherwise you will lose a protective shield unit with every contact.
Caution: Using an Impactor can be nerve-wracking, but it's always worth it. After picking up an Impactor, try to wait for another mothership as long as possible. When a new mothership appears, they unleash the Impactor to shoot it down. If their attempt is successful, the hit mothership triggers a chain reaction, which pulls all remaining invaders of a wave into a black hole in order to destroy them there.
Picking up a thrust reverser pushes enemy invader waves up a row. This can mean salvation, especially in tricky situations.
Picking up an Irritator / Ping-O-Ponger causes an Invader wave to instantly reverse direction and up the entire wave one row. Sometimes they can keep the path of their rockets to the mother ship clear by a targeted use.
The host ships of the enemy invaders coordinate the various waves of attacks. If you manage to shoot down a mother ship of an attack wave, this will set back the entire attack wave a bit. At the same time, the point value increases from kill to kill.
If an invader is ordered to self-destruct and you are in its path, it will lunge in a reckless manner to destroy you. You can recognize Kamikaze Invaders by a short white flash as soon as they have been ordered to self-destruct.
The protective shields protect you from enemy fire. If you or the Invaders fire at the protective shields, they will be destroyed bit by bit by the rockets.
If an invader reaches the main generators of the planetary shield, it will be automatically destroyed and the game of Altair is lost.
For each successful kill of an Invader from the front row, 1000 points will be credited to your points account.
For each successful kill of an Invader from the second line, 750 points will be credited to your points account.
For each successful kill of an Invader from the third row, 500 points will be credited to your points account.
For each successful kill of an Invader from the fourth row, 250 points will be credited to your points account.
For each successful kill of an Invader from the front row, 100 points will be credited to your points account.
Be careful here. Evasive maneuvers are generally recommended here. However, the Invaders' rockets are powerless against the planetary shield as long as the generators are intact. On the other hand, if the rockets hit one of your defense shields, they destroy it bit by bit.
